What is AmerUSA?

AmerUSA has been in the tenant screening, and employee background check business since 1999 to assist landlords and employers minimize risk and liability by thoroughly screening each applicant for any red flags. The company is headquartered in Tampa Bay, Florida, and is a licensed credit reporting agency providing services in all 50 states and DC. Their clients include residential and commercial landlords, real estate agents, small business owners, local governments, nonprofit organizations, property managers, and publicly traded companies, to name a few.

What Information Does AmerUSA Check?

AmerUSA requires basic information, including their name and Social Security Number (SSN), about the applicant so they can screen for the following:

  • Criminal record checks
  • Civil judgment cases
  • Bankruptcy and tax liens
  • Employment verifications
  • Motor vehicle records
  • Personal identity verification
  • Mortgage history and evictions
  • Credit score reports

What Should You Do If Your AmerUSA Report Contains Errors?

The screening and background check reports should be available within a few business days, and the information should be in line with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), meaning it should be accurate and up to date. If your AmerUSA report contains any errors, it can lead to unfair leasing agreements with higher interest rates, and you might have to forego credit, insurance, loans, rental properties, and even jobs.

The most common errors include mixed files (the information displayed is not related to you because of a similar name or other background information) and outdated information (past the 7–10-year disclosure requirement mark or overturned charges). If you find your report has any discrepancies, you can file a dispute with AmerUSA, and they have 30 days to resolve the errors. However, suppose the issue is not resolved. In that case, you can pursue a legal route to receive fair compensation for any damages sustained due to false reporting on your background and credit report check.
