Medical Information Bureau

Are you familiar with the Medical Information Bureau, now known as the MIB Group? If not, it's understandable since it is among hundreds of credit reporting companies in the US. However, there is one distinct difference: It's the only insurance credit reporting bureau of its kind.

MIB serves as a treasure trove of information for insurance underwriters, who rely on its data in order to make accurate assessments regarding life insurance applicants.  The bureau checks consumers' medical records and consumers' previous life, health, disability, or long-term care insurance applications. This is done to uncover any intentional or unintentional errors, as well as misleading information new insurance applications may contain.

MIB is not the only source of information used by insurance underwriters, but with MIB at the helm, application fraud, risk, and increased costs are combatted and dramatically more controlled.

What's on your MIB report?

MIB reports cover any of your life insurance applications from the previous three to five years.  Information included in an MIB report could range from medical conditions and medical treatments to diagnoses, dates of previous life insurance applications, and more.

The information on your MIB report determines your eligibility for life insurance, as well as your  insurance premium rates. If you have purchased life insurance or applied for life insurance, you can request your MIB report by calling (866)692-6901, visiting www.mib.com, or sending correspondence to 50 Braintree Hill Park, Suite 400, Braintree, Massachusetts 02184

Like all other types of consumer report bureaus, MIB must abide by the Fair Credit Report Act, including the provision mandating an annual free MIB report is provided to consumers. Reports from MIB can contain errors.. Those who check for errors are not necessarily error-free themselves. It's the way of the world.

One mistake could produce grave consequences

Consumer Attorneys strongly suggests you obtain your MIB report and check for any mistakes. One single mistake could prevent you from being granted a life insurance policy or increase your premium rates if you are approved for a policy.

Consumer Attorneys also recommends you obtain a free credit report annually at annualcreditreport.com since a single error on your credit reports could jeopardize being approved for a car or mortgage loan.

If you notice any errors on your MIB report or your credit reports, do not hesitate to give our team a call! Frequently, it can take multiple attempts for credit report bureaus to respond in a timely manner.  Additionally, credit report bureaus may drag their feet with removing disputed items or may not remove them at all. This is unacceptable!

Consumer Attorneys will determine if you qualify for financial compensation as a result of consumer protection violations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You may be entitled to receive substantial damages.

Consumer Attorneys’ clients pay no out-of-pocket fees. Our attorneys only receive a fee if they win on your behalf!
