Background check shows arrests from county I never lived in. How do I prove it's not me?
My background report shows three separate arrests from a county I've literally never set foot in. I've lived in the same state my entire life, but these arrests are from counties that are 200+ miles away from anywhere I've ever lived or worked. I have no connection to those areas whatsoever. How do I prove I wasn't there? Do I need some kind of alibi for every single date?
Geographic impossibility is one of the strongest forms of proof in mixed file cases. You don't need an alibi for each specific date - you need to show a pattern that you had no connection to that county.
Effective location proof includes:
- Lease agreements or mortgage records: Show where you actually lived during the relevant time period
- Employment records: If you were working full-time hundreds of miles away, you couldn't have been arrested there
- School records: Student enrollment proves location for that period
- Utility bills or bank statements: Establish residential pattern
- DMV/voter registration: Government records showing your official address
The screening company has the burden to show the record is yours, not the other way around. When arrests are from a county you never lived in, worked in, or had any connection to, that's powerful evidence they matched you to the wrong person.
We can help you compile location documentation that makes it impossible for the screening company to justify their match. Geographic evidence is particularly compelling to courts and often leads to quick resolutions. Contact us to build your location-based defense.
