Jonathan Krikheli

Jonathan is an Associate Attorney at Consumer Attorneys, where he specializes in matters under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). With a deep commitment to consumer advocacy, Jonathan focuses on helping clients navigate complex legal challenges involving their rights in the areas of credit reporting, debt collection, and employment law.

Jonathan began working with Consumer Attorneys in 2021 during his first year of law school and has since developed a strong foundation in federal consumer protection statutes, including the FCRA, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Jonathan is passionate about consumer protection because it allows him to serve individuals who often lack the resources to advocate for themselves. He finds fulfillment in guiding clients through some of the most difficult periods of their lives, ensuring that they emerge in a stronger, more empowered position.

With a client-centered approach, Jonathan is known for his respect for clients’ time and attention. He aims to streamline communication and ensure every interaction is meaningful and efficient, offering clarity without overwhelming those he represents.

Jonathan earned his undergraduate degree in History from CUNY York College, where he was a consistent recipient of the Dean’s List award. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University in May 2024, where he served as Treasurer of the International Law Society. During law school, Jonathan contributed to a pro bono program designed to help indigent individuals file their taxes at no cost.

Identity theft creates problems that don't always go away with a simple phone call. Fraudulent accounts reappear on credit reports after disputes. Lenders deny mortgages because someone else's debt sits in the file. Hours disappear into calls with banks, bureaus, and the IRS, and the fraud still isn't fully removed. When the system stops working the way it should, an identity theft lawyer can pursue claims for consumers hurt by reporting errors. Federal statutes including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), and Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) shift legal fees to the defendant when the consumer prevails. This structure lets an attorney for identity theft victims handle these cases nationwide with no out-of-pocket cost to the client.

Mixed identity errors - also known as "mixed files" - occur when a consumer's credit report contains information belonging to someone else. These errors can result in credit reports showing unpaid debts, bankruptcies, or unfamiliar addresses, even when the consumer has no connection to these records. For thousands of Americans each year, mixed identity errors cause financial hardship, job loss, and personal stress.

Few credit reporting errors hit as hard or as fast as a wrongful deceased notation. When your credit report says you are deceased, your entire life takes a bad turn: accounts get frozen, loan applications come back denied, and rental applications go nowhere. None of it involves a human being ever even looking at the file. It’s all done by automated systems that see the flag and respond to it. That's the whole process – simple, painful, and unfair. The system simply decided you’re no longer alive. It sounds absurd. Yet, it happens to real people every year.
