Fight Age Discrimination with Age Discrimination Lawyers. Get the Legal Help You Deserve Today!

Discrimination on the basis of age, also known as ageism, can occur in employment settings and outside of the workplace. Typically, when ageism is practiced in the workplace, it occurs when an employer treats an applicant or employee unfavorably due to their age. This form of discrimination is denied by the ADEA, a law that protects employees and job applicants aged 40 and over. If you have been in a situation where you’ve been discriminated against, contacting a lawyer for age discrimination can help you understand your rights and explore your options.

You can easily google age discrimination attorneys near me, or you can contact Consumer Attorneys today for immediate assistance!

What Does It Mean: Age Discrimination in the Workplace

Discrimination based on a person’s age consists of unfavorable treatment or denying job opportunities to an employee or a job candidate due to that person’s age. If an employer terminates an employee or mistreats them because of age, these acts are examples of discrimination based on age. If you have faced ageism by current or former employers, you have a right to seek damages. The ADEA and other laws prevent discrimination on the basis of age. If you have suffered because of ageism, contact our attorneys experienced in employment law. When you reach out to us, your questions will be answered by an attorney for discrimination.

Examples of Ageism at Work

Like many other “isms” and discrimination, workplace ageism can be open and “obvious” or covert and subtle. Workplace ageism can present through blatant prejudice as well as via microaggressions and in employers’ actions, words, and even inaction. Regardless of how ageism shows up, it is against the law!

Below are examples of ageism in the workplace. This list is not exhaustive, and we expect that you may have your own personal experiences to add. Check out our examples below:

Treating employees 40 years of age and older less favorably than other employees who are in the same position performing the same duties

  1. If an employer is verbally, physically, or emotionally abusive towards employees and staff based on age.
  2. Excluding employees from social activities and interactions solely based on age.
  3. Paying employees 40 years and older less than other employees performing the same duties.

If any of the examples above resonate with you or you have questions about a unique scenario that you believe might be ageism, contact our law firm and we will be happy to answer your questions.

How to Know if You Are the Victim of Age Discrimination

If you notice that you are being treated unjustly in your workplace due to your age, you may have the opportunity to file a lawsuit based on discrimination. Below are some examples of when our clients have faced ageism and sought our firm for help:

  • Facing threats and harsher attitudes from managers at work than other employees.
  • Being demoted based on your age and not your skill set.
  • Being disciplined more harshly and severely than other employees solely because of age.
  • Working in a hostile work environment that punishes and reprimands “older workers” (those 40 years of age and older) while promoting and praising “younger workers” doing the same work.

If you have faced anything similar to what we’ve mentioned above, we would like to hear from you!
