But sometimes a Cisive background check isn’t as “accurate” as the company claims it to be. If this happens to you, you need to know how to navigate the Cisive background check process when errors are present. Continue reading for more details.

What Are Consumers’ Rights When Verifying Their Background Check?

Consumers have several rights provided by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) when it comes to background checks conducted by companies like Cisive. These include:

  1. Request a copy of the background check report: Consumers have the right to get a copy of their reports produced by companies like Cisive.
  2. Dispute inaccuracies: If there are errors or discrepancies in the report, consumers can dispute the inaccuracies with the company. We recommend disputing via certified mail rather than online, as online disputes often require consumers to waive important rights. Using certified mail preserves the rights you may need later in the dispute and litigation process.
  3. Receive corrections: Once an inaccuracy is disputed, consumers are entitled to receive corrections to any erroneous information found in the report.

What to Do if You Do Not Receive Answers to Your Questions on the Background Report

If you don't receive satisfactory answers from Cisive regarding your background report, consider working with Consumer Attorneys to get the legal help you need. Our attorneys will help you by taking the following steps:

  1. File a dispute: Consumer Attorneys will help you file a dispute via certified mail. This preserves your rights, which may be waived when filing online. Disputing errors forces Cisive to investigate the data in question and respond within a certain amount of time (usually 30 days).
  2. Follow-up: After filing a dispute, our team helps ease the burden of the legal process by handling all correspondence with Cisive on your behalf. Following up with background check companies can be time-consuming and stressful, but our consumer lawyers take on that hassle for you. This allows you to focus on work or enjoy quality time with your family instead of spending your free time tracking down Cisive.
  3. Request a Reinvestigation: After disputing, Cisive may deny your initial dispute. We will formally request a reinvestigation of the background report for you if it’s the best course of action. The FCRA gives you the authority to dispute errors and have them corrected. You should be aware that even though you have the right to dispute inaccuracies, Cisive may not honor the dispute, requiring you to take additional steps to protect your legal rights. As stated previously, we recommend certified mail as opposed to filing an online dispute because you preserve more rights through mail than online.
  4. Maintain Records: Our team will help you keep a detailed record of all efforts to resolve the issue. These documents can be essential later in the litigation process.
  5. Contact a Consumer Rights Organization: We will contact organizations such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for additional support and to file a formal complaint when necessary.
  6. File a Lawsuit: After we’ve had an opportunity to work with you and contact Cisive, we will file a lawsuit for you when necessary.

You Can Sue Cisive if Your Report Contains Errors

Frequently Asked Questions

Cisive background checks are known for their thoroughness and attention to detail. The company uses a combination of advanced technology and manual verification to ensure comprehensive screening. This includes checks on criminal history, employment verification, education records, credit reports, and motor vehicle records, depending on the employer's requirements. Cisive is particularly strict in industries where compliance and security are paramount, such as finance, healthcare, and transportation. The goal is to mitigate risk for employers by highlighting any potential red flags in an applicant’s background. While rigorous, the checks are supposed to be fair and compliant with laws like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

To check the status of your Cisive background check, you typically need to log in to the portal provided by the employer or Cisive. The employer who requested the background check should provide you with login information and instructions on how to access your report. Once logged into the system, you can review the progress of your background check, including whether it is pending, in progress, or complete. If you encounter problems or need additional information, you can contact the employer or Cisive directly for assistance. It’s paramount that you monitor the status in order to make sure potential issues are addressed promptly.

Cisive does not typically include social media checks as a standard part of their background screening process. However, some employers may request social media checks as an additional service, depending on the role and industry. When included, these checks are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and focus on identifying any content that may indicate unprofessional behavior or pose a risk to the employer. Cisive’s approach to social media screening is careful to avoid infringing on privacy and to ensure that only publicly available information is considered. Employers should inform candidates if social media checks are part of the background screening process.
