Why Do Morgan Stanley Background Checks Fail?

If you receive a failed Morgan Stanley background check, it could be due to several reasons, including inaccurate information being provided by the background screening company. Like many firms, Morgan Stanley partners with one or more background check companies to screen applicants’ backgrounds before employment. Along with inaccurate information, incomplete information is also a major problem. Examples of these include false information concerning criminal background records, a wrong address, a Social Security number with an extra digit, and more.

Additionally, errors happen due to human mistakes. That’s right, someone at the background screening company may input incorrect information, like typing the wrong birthdate causing your background check to fail.

If you have received notice of an adverse action by Morgan Stanley indicating disqualification due to a background check, it can be gut-wrenching, but you can take some solace in knowing that federal law governs the accuracy of background screening reports, and you have rights you can exercise in this regard.

What Do Morgan Stanley Background Screenings Look For?

What to Do if You Find Errors in a Morgan Stanley Background Check

If you receive notice that you failed Morgan Stanley's background screening due to undesirable information, you should act right away.

First, request a copy of your background check results from the background screening company. Once you receive your report, mark all errors you find. These can include mismatched criminal records and misspelled names, among other things.

Next, contact the background check company and dispute the erroneous information. You will need to present them with verifying documents when requested. You can also provide this information to Morgan Stanley and ask for reconsideration of your application.

You will need to write a letter and dispute the errors online or via mail. We suggest disputing the errors via certified mail to preserve important rights that you will need later in the dispute process.

Finally, but certainly not least, seek legal advice from a consumer lawyer. Our consumer attorneys will write dispute letters for you that obligate background check firms to validate adverse information within 30 days or remove it. If you are unsure where to start, you should contact Consumer Attorneys as soon as you suspect errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

The time varies depending on the position you applied for and the level of screening required. However, it usually takes about 2-4 weeks for a Morgan Stanley background check to be completed. Additional time may be needed for activities such as reference checks and employment verifications, among other steps. Delays can occur if there are discrepancies or difficulties in obtaining necessary information. Therefore, it is advisable to be prepared for a potentially longer process and to provide accurate and complete information to help expedite the procedure. If you receive your background check results and find errors, be sure to contact Consumer Attorneys for assistance.

The procedures followed by Morgan Stanley in screening employees through background checks are standard due to the nature of the financial services industry. They will scrutinize your credit history, criminal background, educational records, and employment history. Any problems in those areas could make the situation difficult or potentially seal the fate of your approval chances. It is an extensive process; however, for qualified candidates, passage rates are rather high. Despite the thoroughness of the check, those with clean and verifiable records generally have a good chance of passing. If you have questionable items in your background, it’s best to present this information early in the application process.

Yes, during a background check, an employee’s credit history and credit score are reviewed as an aspect of financial responsibility since employees deal with clients' money or information. However, do not assume that your score will be the only determining factor, as you can still apply for the job regardless of your score, if all other requirements are met. In the case of credit issues, they will be considered in the context of your entire candidate profile. It's important to be honest about your financial history, as transparency can positively impact the review process and get you closer to securing a position.
